Prof Louis Tong is a busy man. Besides a fully packed clinic schedule, Prof Tong has his hands full with his sight set on making new research discoveries and introducing new treatments for   keratoconjunctivitis sicca, also known as the  “dry eye syndrome”.

The  SNEC dry eye database was set up in 2006 by Prof Tong and contains information like symptom severity, classification and risk factors which allows for data analysis. From 2007 to 2010, he also set up a trial centre to support industry sponsored studies related to the dry eye syndrome. The centre has since conducted  studies such as the use  of traditional chinese medicine in treating dry eyes and autologous plasma to treat severe cases.

His efforts have garnered him much recognition, such as clinching the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) Clinician-Scientist Award three times in 2009, 2012 and 2017.
