Senior Consultant; Medical Director NNI; Academic Chair, SingHealth Duke-NUS Neuroscience ACP
Dr Wai-Hoe Ng is the Medical Director of the National Neuroscience Institute and a Senior Consultant at the Department of Neurosurgery (SGH and TTSH). He is also the Academic Chair of the Neuroscience Academic Clinical Program and Associate Professor at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School.
He is a graduate from the medical school (MBBS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and underwent neurosurgery residency training at the National Neuroscience Institute, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (FAMS). He was a Singapore Millenium Foundation (SMF) Fellow and pursued a Doctor in Medicine (MD) by Research from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in Neuro-oncology (Brain Tumour) research. He also has an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) from INSEAD.
Dr Ng is fellowship trained in Neuro-oncology at the University of Melbourne, Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery at Toronto Western Hospital and Paediatric Neurosurgery at Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. He was Sugita Fellow and Visiting Scholar at Nagoya University, Japan. Arising from the fellowship training, his clinical practice focuses on Surgical Neuro-oncology, Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, Surgical Neuromodulation, Pain and Epilepsy Surgery. He is well regarded in his field and is a member of the Neuro-oncology Committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) and recipient of the GCEO Outstanding Clinician Award. He is also the Programme Director of the Ministry of Health (MOH) Health Services Development Programme (HSDP) for Surgical Neuromodulation for Pain.
Dr Ng has published over 90 scientific papers and book chapters mainly on neuro-oncology, surgical neuronavigation and functional neurosurgery. He has been awarded research funding from the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) and Agency for Science , Technology and Research (A*Star) as Principle Investigator. He is Executive Editor of the Asian Journal of Neurosurgery and a member of the Editorial Boards of several major neurosurgery journals such as the Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, World Neurosurgery and CNS Oncology. He is active in local and international neurosurgery education and is a member of the Neurosurgery Residency Advisory Committee (RAC), Honorary Secretary of the Chapter of Neurosurgeons (Singapore), and member of the Education and Training Committee of the Asian Congress of Neurological Surgeons (ACNS) and World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS). He is the Programme Director for the WFNS Post-Graduate Training Centre at NNI which offers fellowship training for young neurosurgeons from developing countries.
