|New technology set to revolutionise treatment of hard-to-treat cancers|
Under a new Master Research Collaboration Agreement, signed by SingHealth and Sirtex Medical Ltd (ASX:SRX), researchers from SGH and NCCS will explore the potential of a new technology, known as Carbon Cage Nanoparticles. Developed by the Australian National University, Carbon Cage Nanoparticles can safely deliver radioactive substances to specific cancer sites deep within the body. The nanoparticles may even evade detection by patients’ immune systems, improving their ability to target specific cancers.

Singapore’s top nine Enrolled Nurses received the prestigious Tan Chin Tuan Nursing Award from Minister for Health Gan Kim Yong. The Award, established by the D.S. Lee Foundation in 2006, is the highest accolade dedicated to Enrolled Nurses in Singapore.

|SingHealth raises record sum of $388,000 for President’s Challenge 2012 |
SingHealth has smashed its record by raising $388,000, the highest amount in nine years, since it started its fundraising efforts for the beneficiaries of President’s Challenge. This is a result of five months of intense fundraising activities and the amount raised has exceeded its target by close to 30 per cent. SingHealth Group Chief Executive Officer, Professor Ivy Ng presented the cheque to President Tony Tan Keng Yam at the finale event titled 'Symphony for Health' on Sunday, 14 October 2012 from 8am to 12.30pm at the Punggol Waterway.

|Minister for Health joins 250 patients, volunteers and healthcare staff to support organ and tissue donation|
As part of SingHealth’s annual Transplant Awareness Week, more than 250 transplant patients, volunteers and healthcare professionals gathered today at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) to show their support for organ and tissue donation by forming the international green transplant awareness ribbon. The green ribbon which is the international symbol for organ and tissue donation represents hope for patients who are waiting for a new lease of life through transplantation. Minister for Health, Mr Gan Kim Yong, was the Guest of Honour.

|Shorter hospital stay for patients undergoing heart bypass surgery|
Patients coming to National Heart Centre Singapore for heart bypass surgery can now look forward to a shorter hospital stay. The saving has been possible through the introduction of effective blood sugar management control protocols by a team of nurses from NHCS’s Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CTSICU).

|Breakthrough treatment reduces post-surgical scarring for glaucoma patients|
Scientists at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have developed an innovative way to combat post-surgical scarring for glaucoma patients. A clinical trial has shown that the use of a new drug delivery method has resulted in 40 per cent fewer injections needed by glaucoma patients to prevent scarring after surgery.

A leading nursing expert will be the first nursing professional from Singapore to be conferred the award of Honorary Doctor of Science by Curtin University in recognition of her exceptional leadership and outstanding contribution to the profession. Curtin’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Colin Stirling, conferred the prestigious award upon Associate Professor Lim Swee Hia, Group Director of Nursing at SingHealth, at an official conferral ceremony held at Singapore General Hospital on Friday 10 February 2012.
