Cornea Transplant
People suffering from blinding eye conditions caused by disease, injury or infection to their corneas may have their vision restored by a cornea transplant.
How our programme can help you
If you are suffering from poor vision as a result of a scarred or cloudy cornea, you may benefit from a sight-restoring cornea transplant.
The Singapore Eye Bank works closely with your specialist at Singapore National Eye Centre, where 80 per cent of all cornea transplants are carried out, to match a suitable cornea to help restore your vision.
The eye bank receives corneas from local as well as foreign sources. It also runs a local eye donation programme, through which the team from the eye bank approaches families of potential donors to discuss cornea donation.
Achievements
In 2009, the Singapore Eye Bank successfully matched 323 corneas for transplantation in Singapore. Transplant results have been positive with 91% of transplants successful one year post-transplant.
