Treatment for Stress Urinary Incontinence
|
Stress urinary incontinence is the uncontrollable leakage of urine when you cough, sneeze, laugh, run or lift something heavy. It is caused by weak pelvic floor muscles aggravated by pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause. It is the most common form of urinary incontinence in women with more than 10 – 15% of women suffering from it.
Women with this condition will not only be affected socially, financially, physically and emotionally, their work and family life may also suffer as a result.

What is TVT-O
TVT Obturator (TVT-O) is an effective surgical treatment for stress urinary incontinence. It is a relatively new operation and takes about 10-15 minutes to complete.
TVT-Obturator is a mid-urethral sling that supports the middle section of the urethra in order to keep a woman dry. This new device is similar to the original TVT system, which is the gold standard in the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence.
The advantages of the TVT-Obturator are:
- A simple and quick surgery
- Minimally invasive
- Minimal blood loss
- Relatively safe
- Quick recovery time – can be done as day surgery or with one night’s stay in hospital
- Quick return to work
- Very little pain
- High cure rate of 90%
- A much lower risk of complications to the bladder, bowel and blood vessels compared to TVT.
