The obstetric scan package was initiated to facilitate the referral of patients to the Prenatal Diagnostic Unit at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Singapore General Hospital for 2 specialised scans performed by accredited sonographers. The inclusion of just these 2 scans in the package also allows patients flexibility to return for further scans or prenatal invasive procedures. |
The 2 specialised scans in the Obstetric Scan Package are:
1. First Trimester Screening for Down Syndrome : 11 - 14 weeks of pregnancy 2. Screening Scan : 19 - 20 weeks of pregnancy
The Obstetric Scan Package is available at a special package price of $279.30. |
I. FIRST TRIMESTER SCREENING FOR DOWN SYNDROME Nuchal Translucency Scan & Maternal Serum PAPPA & BHCG levels |
II. SCREENING SCAN |
Nuchal Translucency The nuchal translucency scan is performed between 11-14 weeks gestation as part of the first trimester screening for Down Syndrome.
Our Centre is accredited by the Fetal Medicine Foundation, London for this test. All sonographers at O&G Centre and consultants at Prenatal Diagnostic Centre providing the service are accredited by the Fetal Medicine Foundation (See http://www.fetalmedicine.com for list of accredited sonographers and doctors)
Maternal Serum PAPPA & BHCG levels The levels of the 2 hormones are combined with the nuchal translucency measurement and mother's age to calculate a revised risk for Down Syndrome for the patient. |
This is done for all low risk pregnancies between 19 - 20 weeks to look for placenta position, fetal growth and soft markers of chromosomal abnormalities or gross structural abnormalities including abnormalities of the heart, brain and limbs.
The screening scan is aimed at detecting major abnormalities such as spina bifida, cleft lip and heart defects. The knowledge of presence of such abnormalities before delivery allows the couple to be counselled about the implications and management after birth. |
The O&G Centre and Prenatal Diagnostic Centre also offer other ultrasound services to assist in the care of female patients with obstetrics and gynaecology conditions.
Gynaecology Screening Scan This scan evaluates the female pelvic organs - uterine size and architecture, endometrial thickness and the ovaries. It looks for abnormalities such as fibroids, polyps, ovarian cysts, uterine enlargement and fluid collections.
Fetal Anomaly Scan The scan is for mothers with high-risk pregnancies, and who are at increased risk of fetal anomalies eg. age > 35, maternal diabetes, anti-epileptic medication, past history of abnormal babies, twin pregnancies etc.
Specific Scan These are directed scans for the following: • Dating and fetal viability scans: these are usually done upon first diagnosis of pregnancy, and in cases of threatened abortion. • Fetal presentation, placental localisations, amniotic fluid measurement • Fetal growth scans: done at intervals during the third trimester to monitor fetal growth |
