And yesterday, 2,000 health-care professionals, patients and disease survivors succeeded in raising $250,000 for 47 charities at the President's Challenge Health Relay 100.
'More money is pouring in through pledge cards and corporate donations,' said health-care cluster SingHealth, which organised the event.
At the stroke of midnight on Saturday, the health-care professionals set off from the Ministry of Health building in College Road, the Singapore General Hospital and National University Hospital. Patients and disease survivors joined them for the final 2.5km leg at around 7.15am.
Twins Harminder and Ishwarinder Singh, 13, who are suffering from asthma, arrived at the finish line in about 20 minutes. Their father, lawyer Mohan Singh, 53, was 10 minutes behind them.
Harminder said: 'My dad said he would give us a surprise gift if we beat him, so we ran ahead. Now, we can't wait for our prize.'
President S R Nathan, who was guest of honour at the event, said: 'It's a very encouraging sight.'
