22 November 2007 - 10 outstanding enrolled nurses were recognised at the 2nd Tan Chin Tuan (TCT) Nursing Award for Enrolled Nurses (ENs) yesterday at the Singapore Conference Hall.

Minister for Health, Mr Khaw Boon Wan was at the ceremony to give out the 10 merit awards, of which SingHealth garnered 6, including the overall top award.  Ms Santhi Baloo from Singapore General Hospital, who was named the top winner, received a Challenge Trophy, a specially minted Florence Nightingale medallion and a $2,000 cash prize to advance her nursing development.

The other merit award recipients from SingHealth are:
· Mdm Florence Wong Foong Kou, Changi General Hospital
· Mdm Zaiton Bte Mohd Tahir, Singapore General Hospital
· Ms Manogary Thangavelu, KK Women's and Children's Hospital
· Ms Tan Meu King, National Cancer Centre
· Mdm Tan Khim Gek, CGH

This is the 2nd run of the Awards, which recognizes promising and talented ENs who have demonstrated professionalism, dedication and contribution in advancing the nursing profession locally.  It is founded by the D.S. Lee Foundation and named in memory of the late eminent banker and philanthropist, Tan Sri (Dr) Tan Chin Tuan to remember his dedication, kindness and generosity – the same qualities that are embodied by those in the nursing profession.

A total of 40 ENs were nominated this year for the Awards.  Nominations were opened to all full-time EN who have had at least 5 years of post-graduation working experience in any of the local public and private healthcare institutions and nursing homes.  The award recipients were shortlisted after 2 rounds of assessment by a panel of independent members made up of nursing professionals, academic and community leaders.
