How many times has SingHealth, and its institutions, won the Family Friendly Employer Award?
Singapore General Hospital (SGH), KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) and Changi General Hospital (CGH) have won the award before. KKH won in 2000 and 2002, while CGH was a winner in 1998 and 2000, and SGH in 2002.
SingHealth, National Cancer Centre (NCC), National Heart Centre (NHC), National Dental Centre (NDC) and Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) are first-time winners this year.
What is SingHealth’s Work-Life Policy Statement?
The Work-Life Policy is SingHealth’s commitment to help our employees lead a well-balanced life between work, family and personal needs. The Policy Statement is as follows:
- We recognise that staff want to achieve balance between work commitments and personal needs.
- We believe that promoting this balance will enhance the well-being, productivity and commitment of our staff, resulting in greater effectiveness for the organisation.
- We will work together to achieve sustainable work-life effectiveness to meet both the organisation’s objectives and the employee’s needs.
When was it implemented?
The SingHealth Work-Life Policy Statement was adopted, cluster-wide, in October 2002. Following its launch, the different institutions went about developing and implementing their various work-life, family-friendly programmes catered to meet the needs of their staff and the organisation.
What are the highlights of the family friendly programmes at SingHealth?
The highlights and key components of family-friendly programmes include:
- Flexible work arrangements which allow for compressed work-weeks, job sharing, flexible working hours, telecommuting and permanent part-time work.
- Health and wellness programmes to encourage healthy lifestyle of employees and their family members.
- Family care leave where employees can take days off, apart from their annual leave, to care for their immediate and extended family members who are sick. This is extended to both married and single employees too.
- Dependent care such as on-site childcare centres, referrals services for dependent care and emergency child-care and others.
- Family support programmes that enable employees to better manage their family and personal needs, such as monthly bazaars, errand services via the intranet, Junior@Work days for children to have fun and learn more about their parents’ work, and family days
and outings.
