How often do I need to brush?

Preferably after every meal but at least twice a day.

Why is proper brushing important?

Proper brushing is essential for removing plaque, a sticky invisible film of bacteria on teeth. If not removed (via brushing) properly, plaque will quickly lead to problems like tooth decay, gum and periodontal disease.

What do I need to brush properly with?

Use a soft bristled nylon toothbrush that will not scratch or irritate teeth or damage gums and preferably a plaque disclosing toothpaste (PDT).

How do I know if I brushed right?

The enamel of a tooth is usually smooth. If there are gritty or rough surfaces on your teeth, it might be the build up of tartar and plaque. Feel your teeth after cleaning and note the smoothness on your teeth.

What are the benefits of a plaque disclosing toothpaste?

Instead of foul-tasting pellets, PDT easily discloses which areas of your teeth contain plaque thereby allowing you to brush it away. The combination of plaque disclosure and toothpaste together makes brushing easier.

How to develop Proper Brushing Habits within 7 days?

1. At night, with a dry brush apply plaque discolouring toothpaste or solution to toothpaste.

2. Brush teeth, careful not to let paste or solution flow from mouth.

3. Rinse. Check for pink stains on teeth and gums.

4. Without toothpaste, brush teeth until all stains are clear.

5. Repeat procedure for 7 nights and once a month after.

6. Congratulations! You have developed proper brushing habits.

What can I expect to happen?
The first time, you will find yourself brushing for longer than normal. This is because we don’t usually brush properly. After about 3 days, you will find yourself completing the task faster. By the 7th day, you would be used to having clean teeth and the habit of cleaning teeth properly. Once a month use is recommended for maintenance effect.

DID YOU KNOW...?
That if you are overly vigorous in brushing and flossing, it may result in injury to the gingiva (gums).
