The Ministry of Health and the Health Promotion Board has recently released a set of guidelines listing recommended screenings for men and women at average risk for various screenings.

Women & Men

High Blood Pressure        
Check Yearly
         
                         
High Cholesterol        
Check every three years if the first screening is normal
         
                         
Obesity
Measure Body Mass Index yearly
 
                         
Diabetes Mellitus        
Check every three years if the first screening is normal
         
                         
Colorectal Cancer            
Have a faecal test yearly
             
                         
Hepatitis B*
Screening for those with a family history of hepatitis B infection, liver cancer or high-risk behaviour
 
                         
Liver Cancer*
Screening for those with chronic hepatitis B infection, hepatitis C and liver cirrhosis
 
                         
Tuberculosis*
Sking testing for close contacts of people suffering from infectious tuberculosis
 
                         
Sexually transmitted infections* - syphillis, gonorrhoea, HIV, chlamydia

Women

Cervical Cancer
Pap smear every three years for all women who have ever had sexual intercourse
     
       
                         
Breast Cancer    
Breast self examination monthly

Check bone mineral density yearly
                   

Men

Prostate Cancer            
Screening for men who have close relatives who suffered from prostate cancer before 60 years old
             

* These tests are recommended for people at high risk.
