What is the purpose of the direct ward referral and fast track Specialist Outpatient Clinic (SOC) appointments?
The direct ward referral enables GPs to directly admit patients to the wards in the shortest possible time and bypass the A&E department.

The fast track SOC appointments enable GPs to get early appointments for their patients with urgent conditions to see our specialists. This would reduce the need for GPs to send the patients to the A&E department.

How do the direct ward referral and fast track SOC appointments benefit the GPs?
GPs can now refer their patients with serious conditions to the wards and the SOCs much faster. The GPs would be kept informed of his/her patient's conditions through preliminary reports and an inpatient discharge summary upon the patient's discharge from the hospitals.

How do the direct ward referral and fast track SOC appointments benefit the patients?
Patients receive the most benefits. Those requiring inpatient treatment can be admitted directly to the wards without delay. They will bypass the A&E department resulting in shorter waiting time for hospital admission and reduce costs. The fast track SOC appointments also enable patients with urgent conditons to be seen earlier by our specialists.

Does the patient have a choice of ward class?
For the direct ward referral, the patient has a choice of ward classes. You / the hospitals can advise the patient regarding the ward charges. Upon arrival at the admission counter, our staff will also explain the admission and ward charges details to the patient.
