There are increasing opportunities today for doctors to present at case conferences, journal clubs, scientific meetings and overseas conferences.

Impactful presentation skills are essential to illustrate ideas and to express thoughts with greater confidence and poise.

Ms Lorraine Kwek shared her valuable experience with our doctors on 26 February 2005, 5 and 12 March 2005. The following contents were covered:

  • Prepare effective introductions for specific purposes
  • Translate points in the body content with transitional words and expressions
  • Prepare effective conclusions for specific purposes
  • Select effective visual aids
  • Apply principles and techniques of good speaking voice, clear speech and vocal variety
  • Demonstrate effective use of non-verbal communication to connect with the audience
  • Apply techniques of conquering speaker anxiety and nervousness and building presenter confidence

The training earned excellent reviews. The overall feedback rating was 4.75 (5 being excellent and 1 being poor).

Dr Lee Guan Huei, one of the participants, shared his feedback "I find the course useful and relevant to my work. The instructions are clear and interactive. The instructor is clearly experienced and keen to share her knowledge. Beware though that to gain most from it, one must be prepared to go up to the stage to present and receive comments."
