HMDP Update - Liver Transplantation
The HMDP Update was successfully organized on 12 September 2006. It was well attended by medical as well as non medical colleagues. The session, facilitated by Dr Tan Chee Kiat, Director Liver Transplant Service SGH, brought together healthcare providers who were eager to exchange knowledge in the spirit of the fellowships.

Dr Tan Yu Meng Consultant Surgical Oncology NCC shared about his 12 months fellowship experience in the University of Birmingham UK. Dr Tan Nancy Associate Consultant Paediatric Medicine KKH presented what the Paediatric Liver Centre King's College London has taught her about hepatology and transplantation. Through sharing, we see that colloboration of resources is essential to drive transplant programmes in SingHealth.
Dr Boey Sek Koon, Senior Consultant Anaesthesia & SICU SGH accomplished his fellowship on Liver Transplant Anaesthesia at the University of Pittsburg Medical Centre USA. He presented his acquired knowledge in the area of rapid infusion devices and measurement of cardiac output. Most importantly, he observed the importance of teamwork in Liver Transplant where anaesthetists must work in tandem with surgeons, nurses, technicians, perfusionists, as well as the liver transplant co-ordinators, among others.

Dr Albert Low Consultant Diagnostic Radiology SGH completed his 6 months training at the Mount Sinai Hospital New York. He highlighted the learning points relevant to Liver Transplantation which include spectrum of imaging pathology in liver diseases, radiology-pathology correlation, novel CT/MR techniques, 3D post processing etc.
HMDP plays an important role by sending our staff to learn from the best in the world. Let us continue to learn new skills, harness new technology and find new solutions for our patients.
