The Department of Otolaryngology is responsible for
both the general spectrum of otolaryngological services
as well as their sub-specialties such as head and neck
surgery, otology, rhinology, functional endoscopic sinus
surgery and paediatric otolaryngology. The latest subspecialties
to be developed are laryngology and phonatry surgery.
Several special clinics are available. These include
Head and Neck Tumor Board, Children’s Hearing
Clinic and the Voice Clinic.
The Department conducts advanced specialty training
in Otolaryngology. Apart from training medical undergraduates
and nurses, the Department is also active in organizing
workshops and seminars for both local and overseas surgeons.
The Department is recognized for training by the Specialist
Accreditation Board. It was also accredited by the Royal
College of Surgeons, Edinburgh on 9 May 1999.
The Department has on-going studies in several areas
including post-irradiation hearing loss, sleep apnoea,
Head & Neck Oncology management, and Cholesteatoma.
