OVERVIEW

The Department of Hand Surgery provides a service for treating all types of hand problems, both emergency and elective. Emergency work includes a functional microsurgical reconstruction service for trauma. The medical team is responsible for both the general spectrum of services, as well as their individual areas of clinical interests, namely, common hand conditions, hand trauma, congenital hand abnormalities, wrist disease and injuries, upper limb paralysis and microsurgical reconstruction of the upper limb.

The department is proud of its development of the Ambience Control Device (AC Device) which is used in the post-operative care of the micro-surgically reconstructed hand in providing elevation and constant warm ambience for the hand.

TEACHING AND TRAINING

Besides being a centre for advanced specialty training in hand surgery, the department also conducts courses like Endoscopic Bio-skills Workshop, AO Psychomotor Skills Workshop, Symposium on Skeletal and Soft Tissue Reconstruction of the Upper Limb, Review Course in Hand Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery of the Hand-Advanced Instructional Course for local and regional participants.

The department is recognized for advanced specialty training by the Specialist Accreditation Board.

  • Extended Lateral Arm Flap for Reconstruction of Severely Injured Hand
  • Osteocutaneous Lateral Arm Flap
  • Thumb Duplication - a Concept of Total Reconstruction
  • Free Nail Bed Grafting for Nail Bed Injuries
  • Functional Replantation
