| The Department of Paediatric Surgery was established
in 1982 and has since 1997 been housed in KK Hospital.
The department offers a complete range of Paediatric
Surgical inpatient and outpatient care for children
up to the age of 16 years, services around 4,000 inpatient
and outpatient surgeries per year.
The department has special interests in minimally invasive
surgery and paediatric urology. The department is also
Singapore’s Advanced Surgical Training unit for
paediatric surgery.
Areas of research include hepato-biliary and clinical
research. The department caters training for local and
overseas doctors, either as part of a fellowship program
or as an Advanced Surgical Trainee.

There is no Basic Specialist Training program in Paediatric
Surgery. Doctors wishing to enter the Advanced Specialist
Training program for Paediatric Surgery must complete
the M.Med training programmed in general surgery or
equivalent postgraduate surgical qualification recognized
by the Singapore Medical Council.
Advanced trainees must spend 4 years in an accredited
unit of Paediatric Surgery. This training will often
include a period of time spent in a recognized unit
outside Singapore.
