KKH the largest paediatric centre in Singapore with an annual paediatric medical admission of 16,000 patients and outpatient load of 47,000. With the development of the various paediatric sub-specialties in a general paediatric environment, the department is able to offer a comprehensive training for both doctors and nurses.
It is a hospital of choice for teaching and training in Paediatrics, not just for junior doctors and nurses but also for foreign medical staff from around the region. KKH has 450 paediatric medical beds catering to specialized care and general Paediatrics. There is strong support and collaboration from neonatal and paediatric surgical services, as well as laboratory and radiological support. As such, trainees will see a wide variety of cases particularly in the sub-specialties of cardiology, haematology / oncology, neurology, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, endocrine, renal, respiratory medicine and intensive care.
With well-equipped conference and teaching areas and the development of the hospital and department’s library, and IT support for teaching and training, learning becomes easier. Each trainee has his / her own supervisor who will meet regularly to assess learning and training or other matters. Training is approached with various techniques to ensure quality and an atmosphere of learning.

Basic specialty training (Paediatrics) will ensure that trainees develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become a specialist in Paediatrics. Advanced trainees undergo general and sub-specialized training to gain further experience and confidence in the management of Paediatrics. Temporary fellows may gain experience in a particular field of Paediatrics in a short-term period.
