The division of cardiology has
a total medical staff of 6, consisting of 3 Senior Consultants,
1 Consultant, 2 Associate Consultants and 2 Registrars
(AST trainee). There are also 5 Visiting Consultants.
The division is dedicated to provide specialized care
in cardiology for both inpatients and outpatients. The
division provides a comprehensive range of ambulatory
services including treadmill stress testing, echocardiography
(transthoracic, transesophageal, pharmacological and
exercise stress echocardiography), ambulatory electrocardiography
monitoring, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and
tilt table test. It also runs a cardiac catheterisation
laboratory, which performs over a thousand coronary
angiography every year. The division also oversees a
growing cardiac rehabilitation program.
The division provides training programs in cardiology
for medical officers, general medicine trainees and
advanced specialty trainees. It is actively involved
in in-house teaching programs for medical students,
house officers, medical officers, paramedical staff
and nurses; and continuous medical education programs
for general practitioners and medical officers in polyclinics.
On a national basis, the staff is involved in teaching
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) courses, Nanyang
Polytechnic students and workshops in echocardiography
and interventional cardiology.
For the three-year Advanced Training Program in cardiology,
the trainee spends 24 months in Changi General Hospital
and 12 months at a tertiary centre. During the 24 months
in Changi General Hospital, trainees devote their time
fully to Cardiology except for off-office hour on-call
duties in General Medicine.
