NON-SPECIALIST APPOINTMENT SCHEMES 

REGISTRAR

Registrars are advanced specialist trainees undergoing specialty or subspecialty training in the various clinical disciplines. As a registrar, you are employed on 3-year term contracts renewable for the purpose of completion of advanced specialist training. Upon obtaining exit certification and registration in the Singapore Medical Council’s Register of Specialists, you can be promoted to the grade of Associate Consultant.

MEDICAL OFFICER (TRAINEE)

Medical Officers (Trainees) are appointed by the respective Specialist Training Committees at the national level to undergo basic specialist training in any one of the clinical disciplines. Upon obtaining the relevant post-graduate specialist qualifications and fulfilling the pre-requisites set by the Joint Committee on Specialist Training (JCST), you can be appointed to the grade of Registrar to undergo further training at the advanced level.

MEDICAL OFFICER

Medical Officers undergo a 4 to 5-year residency program to prepare them for practice as general medical practitioners in the open market. As a newly appointed Medical Officer, you are offered a 5 to 6-year term contract in the first instance in line with the duration of your bond period. Thereafter, you may be employed on renewable 3-year term contracts or may apply to the Resident Physician appointment.

HOUSE OFFICER

House Officers are fresh medical graduates undergoing a one-year on-the-job internship program for purpose of registration for medical practice. As a HO, you must be provisionally registered with the Singapore Medical Council. Upon satisfactory completion of your internship, you can be appointed as a Medical Officer.
