Introduction

Singapore Health Services Pte Ltd (SingHealth) is a not-for-profit, private organisation which provides excellence in the three pillars of healthcare: research, education/training, and services. SingHealth’s system of three acute care hospitals, five national specialty centers, and nine primary healthcare polyclinics provide public and private sector healthcare services for about half of the residents in Singapore and for an increasingly large number of residents of other countries in Asia and beyond. In addition to the provision of cost-effective healthcare services, SingHealth’s institutions are the sites for clinical education, training, and research for healthcare professionals from Singapore and many other countries.

SingHealth collaborates with the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to provide pharmaceutical supplies and medical-surgical-nursing services in the acute phase of international emergencies and disasters: E.g., in response to the Tsunami damage in Aceh, Indonesia, December 2004
SingHealth is not a donor/lender agency; but we have a long-standing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of voluntary charitable humanitarian assistance in the acute and relief-to-recovery phases of emergencies and disasters in dozens of developing countries in Asia and the Middle East.

In addition to its CSR programme, in April 2006 SingHealth established an International Medical and Public Health Development Assistance Activities (IMPAct) Programme which is responding to the needs of less well-developed countries and the interests of their donor/lender development partners by providing non-profit international technical assistance in sustainable development as well as in humanitarian relief-to-recovery operations.
