Program Director's Welcome

Prof Wong Wai KeongCongratulations on making it thus far in your medical career. Whether you have completed or are about to graduate from medical school, I applaud your zealous attitude to learn continuously. Making it into medical school was not easy, completing it was tougher – nonetheless, you have stayed committed to the spirit of healing till this day.

The SingHealth General Surgery Residency Program offers a seamless track to specialist surgical training. With a structured curriculum, formative assessments and timely feedback, your progress is closely monitored to enhance learning. Mentoring is also personalized, allowing you to effectively develop the competencies of a skilled surgeon.

At SingHealth, you can expect to gain exposure to a broad spectrum of medical conditions, treatments and case studies. Our comprehensive patient case-mixes, along with SingHealth’s rich legacy in medical education and experienced faculty pool, is our key in providing you an ideal graduate medical education environment. Along with my team of dedicated faculty, we aim to deliver the best surgical training to you.

If you enjoy problem-solving, working with your hands and making decisions in a dynamic environment, surgery may be the career option for you. Do take time to find out more about the work of surgeons. Talk to your seniors and our faculty members, who would be glad to share their experiences.

Personally speaking, surgery is a very fulfilling career. The working hours may be slightly longer, but the sense of satisfaction covers all when you see patients recovering gradually.

I wish you the best in your pursuit of medical education.
