Introduction
The launch of the SingHealth Residency Program in May 2010 marks the next chapter in graduate medical education for SingHealth. We have embarked on a more structurally sound and systematized approach to mentoring and nurturing the next generation of medical specialists.  

SingHealth Residency
The Residency program, is based on the principle of six core competencies, namely: Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Practice-based Learning and Improvement, Interpersonal & Communication Skills, Professionalism and Systems-based Practice. For SingHealth Residency, we have added a seventh competency, Faculty Development that will give our residents the edge in learning as their mentors sharpen their pedagogy skills, and equip them with competencies in leadership and administration. As the Sponsoring Institution for the Residency program, it gives us clear ownership in charting the training and development of our future doctors, hence building up the medical talent pool for improved patient care.

With a new structured medical program and a curriculum based on core competencies for our future doctors, SingHealth Residency is well-poised to transform graduate medical education; one of the main thrusts in our pursuit of academic medicine excellence. As a leader in Academic Medicine, SingHealth offers a spectrum of 42 specialities and a vibrant research culture that will give our residents vast opportunities to hone their clinical acumen and research capabilities to provide better care for patients. With a wide range of patient case mix, our hospitals and specialized institutions provide a holistic and comprehensive learning environment for the residents, who will aslo be learning from the best.

Strong Teaching Legacy
Since the 1900s, SingHealth has groomed generations of healthcare professionals. Our experienced pool of faculty has been imparting to their residents invaluable medical knowledge and best practices as they begin their journey in medicine. Collaborations with renowned partners in medicine, research and education will enhance our residents' learning curve as they network and learn from medical luminaries, both local and international. We are committed to producing individuals with a solid academic foundation, matched by professionalism in service delivery, research and education.

Milestone
The recent ACGME-I Accreditation marks a key milestone for SingHealth Residency that raises the bar for graduate medical education in Singapore. SingHealth has always been a leader in Singapore healthcare and we have what it takes to make things happen. The dedication and ability from the Graduate Medical Education office, Associate DIOs, Program Directors, Associate Program Directors, Core Faculty, Physician Faculty, Senior Manager, Institutional and Program Coordinators have been heartening and together we will shape the Residency Program.

The journey ahead is exciting as SingHealth Residency continues its expansion, adding more specialities in the coming years to realize Singapore's medical health care excellence with top quality professionals to deliver better patient care.
