Why Be A SingHealth Scholar
| Being a SingHealth Scholar has provided me with a wide range of opportunities and kicked start my journey to be a physiotherapist.
It has given me the chance to further my studies overseas. I am currently completing my degree in Sydney and it has been a growing experience thus far. Living abroad and adapting to a new environment has been challenging, but SingHealth has provided good support throughout, also constantly updating me about the organisation.
Prior to coming over, SingHealth also organised a camp and workshop to prepare us for our studies and life overseas. It was simply great interacting with fellow colleagues, the team from SingHealth and a taste of what to expect going overseas.

My education in Nanyang Polytechnic has also provided good hands-on experience and exposure to the working culture in the various healthcare settings in Singapore. I have had the chance to work in some of the hospitals under the SingHealth cluster. I enjoyed the vibrant work culture and the many opportunities for self-development.
The best is yet to be – I am looking forward to making a difference in the lives of people whom I am about to encounter on this journey of being a physiotherapist in SingHealth!

It has been a very exciting journey, studying occupational therapy in Nanyang Polytechnic for three years. To embark on the road less travelled takes courage, but what it promises is a definite adventure. It is never easy to make a decision of a future career right after A levels, and I remember the raised eyebrows from peers as they questioned my decision of undertaking the course.
|
| Now that I have graduated, I say this with conviction – I am proud to be an occupational therapist! I’m also excited to continue my studies in the University of Sydney, where I’ll be doing a degree conversion programme for a year with my friends too.
Throughout my studies in Nanyang Polytechnic, Singhealth has provided constant support. In addition to school fees (diploma programme and one year overseas degree conversion), they also provide a monthly allowance, which I find very useful, especially when buying textbooks and notes. There is also the option of choosing which hospital to serve my bond at upon completion of studies.

From my experience, Singhealth is a very efficient organization that takes scholars very seriously. The scholarship interviews were conducted professionally, by an established panel. It reflects how sincere and how serious they are towards scholars. The feedback session conducted with the scholars also shows the concern they have for their scholars.

Pursuing an overseas degree was my top choice. The fears and uncertainties that I would have to face were the main deterrent. It was my interest in allied health that led me to pursue overseas study as there were no local alternatives.
SingHealth provided me with such an opportunity to pursue my passion in Orthoptics. It is a challenge. Theodore Roosevelt said “It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed. In this life we get nothing save by effort.”
I believe that I will succeed as long as I persevere. The SingHealth scholoarship has given me the chance to experience a different culture and to learn in a different environment.

Nobel Prize winning author, Anatole France once said, “To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.” I dreamt and believed. Now, being a SingHealth Scholar, I am able to follow my dreams, and equip myself for this challenging yet rewarding profession.
