(I) Objective

The Place-and-Train Programme for Enrolled Nurses - (NITEC in Nursing), is now in its 2nd intake.  It is targeted at augmenting the pool of healthcare manpower in the following ways:

  • Assist healthcare institutions to convert and train existing non-healthcare trained* Singaporeans to take on healthcare positions;

  • Assist non-healthcare trained Singaporeans who are keen to work in the healthcare sector to embark on long-term professional healthcare careers by acquiring relevant healthcare training.


(II) Funding Support

WDA provides the following support:

  • Course Fee Support

Trainees will receive 100% of course fee support. WDA will provide 60% of course fee. Healthcare institutions will co-sponsor the balance of the course fee payable.

  • Training Allowance

Trainees will receive monthly training allowance based on their academic qualifications, as shown in Table 1.

WDA will provide up to 50% of last drawn salary or S$600 per month, whichever is lower. Healthcare institutions will co-sponsor the balance of the training allowance payable.

  • Wage Support

WDA will provide recruiting healthcare institutions 50% of salary, or $600 per month per candidate, whichever is lower, for the first three months of employment after graduation.

 

(III) Criteria to Qualify for Funding Support

For individuals and company-sponsored trainees, you must:

  • Be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident;
  • Meet entry requirements of the training programme of NITEC in Nursing;
  • Not be in a nursing or allied healthcare position;
  • Not be holding healthcare qualifications similar to the NITEC in Nursing training at the point of application;
  • Have a minimum of two years working experience, excluding National Service;
  • Fulfil required training attendance and pass all examinations required by the programme; and
  • For individuals, you must fulfil the terms set by the sponsoring healthcare institutions.

 

(IV) Training Programme

The NITEC in Nursing is a 18-month full-time programme conducted at the School of Applied and Health Sciences at Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College East. The course is structured to prepare individuals to perform competently as Enrolled Nurses in various healthcare settings. The graduate will perform direct nursing care and activities for an assigned group of patients under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. The course is designed to develop nurses who are committed to excel in the care they provide, and to their continuing professional development. 

The pre-requisites for the Programme are as follow:

  • Two GCE ‘O’ level grades (Grades 1-8) in any 2 subjects; OR
  • Three GCE ‘N’ level passes (Grades 1-5) in English, Mathematics and Science; AND
  • At least two years of full-time working experience, excluding National Service.

 

(V) Application procedures

The 2nd intake scheduled for April 2007 has closed.  Application for 2007 intake will commence in October 2007.  Interested applicants are required to submit their application online via the Singapore Workforce Development Agency website: http://www.wda.gov.sg
