Minister for Health opens $20million clinical research unit on SGH Campus
  • Largest public sector early phase clinical research unit in Singapore
  • Currently hosts more than 20 clinical trials, 40% of which are led by local clinician-scientists
  • Provides patients with access to new treatments

Minister for Health Mr Khaw Boon Wan today officially launched SingHealth’s dedicated early phase clinical research unit, the largest of its kind in Singapore.  The SingHealth Investigational Medicine Unit has already attracted more than 20 clinical trials, some 40% of which are trials initiated by local clinician-scientists.

Zorro gives out roses and $100,000 at Nurses' Day Celebrations

Appearing in disguise, Mr Lim Swee Say, Minister for Prime Minister’s Office and Secretary-General, NTUC, heroically arrived at the movie-themed SingHealth Nurses' Day party as the legendary Zorro, giving out roses to the nurses in appreciation of their dedication in caring for patients. Minister Lim also launched a $100,000 community outreach pilot programme initiated by SingHealth nurses and the Healthcare Services Employees Union (HSEU), to help needy patients upon discharge with the necessary resources to manage their conditions at home to prevent re-admission to hospital.

SingHealth Launches President’s Challenge 2010 Fundraising Event

SingHealth's charity movie is set to bring the whole family together in more ways than one. It is part of SingHealth's outreach campaign themed "We Are One Family" in aid of the President's Challenge this year. The audience comprises some 800 SingHealth staff and their families as well as 105 children and youths from the Jamiyah Children's Home and Gracehaven. The event kicks off a series of outreach efforts by SingHealth's family of nine healthcare institutions and the SingHealth Corporate Office.

SingHealth selects IBM and SAP to transform HR processes

SingHealth teamed up with IBM and SAP to standardise Human Resource (HR) processes for approximately 23,000 users. The system will standardise policies on compensation and benefits, performance reviews, and career development for all SingHealth staff. It also increases IT capability, expands capacity, delivers standardisation, and sets SingHealth on a good foundation for future technology innovations. The project is expected to be completed by June 2011.

SingHealth and AIC collaborate to help 30 community healthcare institutions save on cost-effective procurement practices
SingHealth Group Procurement Office (GPO) will be extending its expertise in procurement and relieve 30 nursing homes from the burden of sourcing for the best value products, so that they can focus on providing quality care for their residents. These nursing homes will benefit from cost savings for the purchase of basic necessities such as milk feeds and diapers.  This initiative is a two-year partnership between the nursing homes, the Agency for Integrated Care, and SingHealth GPO.

Singaporeans can now easily access comprehensive and reliable health information specially tailored to cater to the healthcare needs of Asians via a newly launched website portal, Healthxchange (www.healthxchange.com.sg). Supported and launched by SingHealth, Healthxchange provides a trusted channel for participants to bring their healthcare queries and concerns online to qualified healthcare professionals, and exchange information and views on their healthcare needs through interactive user-generated sections.

Singapore-China collaboration invests S$2 million to strengthen primary healthcare delivery in Southern China

SingHealth and Fujian Provincial Health Bureau entered a partnership to equip healthcare professionals in Fujian to introduce reforms to the primary care health delivery system in Southern China. This S$2 million training programme is underwritten by a grant of approximately S$660,000 from Temasek Foundation, a Singapore-based philanthropic organisation. Up to 5,500 healthcare professionals in Fujian are expected to benefit from this programme.
