Just a year ago, baby Hoh Sin Jun was on the brink of death.
He was only five months old when he was diagnosed with a potentially fatal disease in which the body is unable to fight infections.
But a donation of cord blood from the Singapore Cord Blood Bank (SCBB) gave him a new lease on life.
Blood found in the umbilical cord is a rich source of immature cells that can develop into a wide range of different blood cells, which can be used to replace diseased ones.
Today, two-year-old Sin Jun is back home, having celebrated his first year after the transplant. His is the first life to be saved by the SCBB.
He is seen here being kissed by his parents, Mr Hoh Kim Youn and Madam Leong Hong Yeok, both 33.
